Background and Biography:

Brenda Meether is a classically trained pianist who earned her BA in music education with emphasis in music therapy from the University of Nebraska. She grew up in a musically inclined family and began playing piano by ear at a young age. Composing music came naturally to her and by age 17 her first performed work was a choral piece performed by the high school choir she was involved in. After graduating from University of Nebraska, Brenda was a piano teacher in the Sacramento California area for five years. She has lived and worked in the Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette and Erie Colorado areas since 1998 giving piano lessons.

Brenda's recent published work, The Winds’ Answer, an original piece for two flutes and piano, won honorable mention from the National Flute Associations’ New Composers Competition. This piece is available online at: sheetmusicplus.com.

Brenda has always had an inclination toward teaching and began tutoring students in learning piano during junior high school. She has taught K-12 music programs at various schools in the past but currently focuses on teaching private individual and group piano lessons. Brenda has 15 years of musical teaching experience.

Brenda’s music therapy interests have drawn her to work with or teach classes that emphasize stress reduction through music. She has acquainted herself with innovative musicians who see music as a way to facilitate well being. One program involved music workshops in the business world designed to improve employee well being, communication, and reduce stress at the work place through music. Another is the Clavinova Connection keyboard class by Yamaha Inc., a creative music experience where Brenda serves as teacher/facilitator in Colorado. While the primary focus of this class is to learn to play the keyboard, relaxation and stress reduction exercises are also implemented.
